This fall marks a change for the cross country programs as Troy Johnson steps up in his first year at the helm. Johnson replaces long-time coach Jim Sackett, who retired in June after 27 years directing both the cross country and track and field programs for both men and women.
The men’s team hopes to return to the NCAA championships for the fifth straight year. The Broncos were second in last year’s West Region meet and placed 17th at the national meet—their fourth straight top-20 national finish. The men return just one competitor from the regional and national meet in Derek De Santiago. He is joined by Mariano Baez, Jonathan Batres, Scott Chadez, Victor Cuccia, Alberto Diaz, Nashatar Gill, Michael Hurley, Michael Najera, Vincent Rojas and Alex Wood.
The women were honored with having the school’s best team GPA in 2006-2007 and could be a factor in the CCAA race. Denise Salceda and Emma Hertel figure to lead the Broncos. They are joined by Brittany Ballin, Naomi Bisagno-Pride, Claudia Garcia, Sarah Garcia, Amber Hebb, Keiki Noda, Keiry Perez, Adrienne Schumm, Elizabeth Soria, Tiffany Turner, Lauren Wong,
