After two consecutive disappointing seasons, Cal Poly Pomona’s men’s tennis team looks to regain its standing as one of the most competitive teams in the ITA West Region in 2007-08. The Broncos have recorded 11 winning seasons in the past 15 years and are routinely ranked among the top teams in the nation.

Coach Sandy Kriezel returns for her 10th season at the helm and welcomes back six returners from last year’s 2-14 squad.

Sophomore Joshua Lau (Chino Hills) went 8-8 at No. 1 singles last season. He also went 5-11 at No. 1 doubles with Mike Palacio.

Sophomore Joe Madoo (Victorville) played exclusively at No. 3 singles last season and went 3-9. He teamed with Eric Carlstrom at No. 2 doubles and finished with a 2-12 mark.

Carlstrom, (a junior from Visalia) was a fixture in the Broncos’ lineup last season. He went 0-8 at No. 4 singles, but posted a 3-4 mark at No. 5 singles.

Sophomore Justin Gong (Covina) played the majority of time at No. 6 singles and finished 2-9.

Junior Dan Evangelista (Montebello) saw plenty of action in his second season. He was 1-6 overall playing and equal amount at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. He played six matches at No. 3 doubles.

Sophomore Steven Zosa (La Mirada) also returns after playing a limited amount of matches last season.

Key newcomers for the Broncos include: Jackie Vachirajongkol (Jr. Hacienda Heights), Jeffrey Vachirajongkol (Jr. Hacienda Heights), Nelson Wu (Fr. Hacienda Heights), Jake Magnant (So. Colton) and Salvador Romero (Fr. Los Angeles).

The Broncos uncharacteristically had their fourth consecutive season below .500 in 2005-06 and finished with a 2-14 overall record. The wins for the Broncos came against Whittier and Division II member Montana State-Billings. Cal Poly Pomona also hosted several of the top NCAA Division II teams in the nation during the season.
The Broncos play their home matches at the Kellogg Tennis Complex.
