The Broncos look to return to the NCAA Division II playoffs in 2008 after missing out for the first time in six years last season.
The Broncos, the California Collegiate Athletic Association champions in 2003, finished with an 8-14 overall record. They were fourth in the CCAA with a 5-5 mark.
Senior Jenny Tsai (Artesia) leads the way for the Broncos. A two-time, all-CCAA selection, Tsai was 16-13 overall and 12-10 at No. 1 singles last season. She teamed with Renee Paquillo at No. 1 doubles and posted a 12-10 record. She is ranked 33rd in the latest ITA rankings.
Sophomore Kara Fisher (Southampton, Bermuda) earned second-team all-CCAA honors last season. She went 10-11 overall with 8-4 record at No. 3 singles. She teamed with sophomore Mallory Brady (Torrance) with a 7-5 record in doubles and 5-6 with Annika You.
Brady, who played the majority of singles at No. 4, returns along with 2005 second-team, all-CCAA choice Kelley Wong (Jr. Rowland Heights), who played at No. 6. Senior Ellyn Caprara (Carlsbad), a solid doubles player in 2007, also returns.
Newcomers include: Soph. Fallon Blattner (Kihei, Hawaii), Fr. Jennifer Chow (Diamond Bar), Fr. Michelle Stock (Valencia), Jr. Jessica Winkler (Fullerton) and Fr. Kaitlin Wooldridge (Fort Collins, Colo).
Sandy Kriezel, the CCAA Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2003, returns for her 10th season as the Broncos’ head coach. She has compiled a 97-91 record in her nine years as the Cal Poly Pomona head coach.
Cal Poly Pomona enters the 2007-08 season ranked 38th in the nation by the ITA and fourth in the West Region.
The Broncos’ first dual match will be Feb. 6 at UC Riverside.
