2009 Hilda L. Solis Scholarship

Dinner and Reception

The scholarships provided by the Raíces (Hispanic) Alumni Chapter and the Cesar E. Chavez Center for Higher Education serve to recognize and support Cal Poly Pomona’s growing Hispanic population.  These students are often the first in their families to go to college, and many have great financial need.  Nevertheless, they manage to succeed academically, while finding significant ways to give back to their community on and off campus. The scholarships also demonstrate to younger students that help is available, and encourages them to look beyond their own successes and make commitments as to how they will contribute to the success of others; which is an important element for the progress of our community as a whole.

All students benefit from a more diverse student body that enriches our campus with a broader perspective, deeper understanding, and compassion.  Cal Poly Pomona is an officially qualified Hispanic-Serving Institution, with 35 percent Hispanic undergraduate student enrollment.
