Students who suspect that they may have a disability that interferes with their learning may consult with a DRC counselor by scheduling an intake appointment. DRC has a formal intake process by which comprehensive information is obtained through an interview, clinical screening, and review of disability documentation in order to determine the student’s eligibility for our program.
For students with a prior history of disability and/or disability documentation: If disability documentation is found to sufficiently establish a disability and provide adequate information on the functional impact of the disability so that effective accommodations can be identified, students are then able to complete their registration with the DRC and become eligible to receive academic accommodations and support services.
For students with no prior history of disability and/or no disability documentation: If the preliminary outcome of the intake, including a review of relevant records, supports the probability of a medical condition, learning disorder, attention disorder, or other psychological condition that may qualify as a disability, the student may be referred out for a comprehensive evaluation for diagnosis and/or treatment (when appropriate). DRC refer students to appropriate and qualified professionals who provide a sliding-fee scale for Cal Poly Pomona students. Students may also be referred to their own health insurance plan, if available, and depending on the type of evaluation recommended. (See below.) If students are receiving financial aid, DRC will coordinate with the Financial Aid Office to verify the need for supplemental funding to cover the costs of diagnostic/disability evaluation. Once documentation verifying a disability is submitted and reviewed, students may be eligible to receive academic accommodations and support services. Students will be required to schedule a follow-up appointment with one of our counselors in order to complete their registration with the DRC and determine the appropriate support services.
