Applying

How do I apply for financial aid?

You can apply for federal and state financial aid, including loans, by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who participate in CSU International Programs or Study Abroad programs can also apply for state and federal aid using the FAFSA.

The most important thing to remember about financial aid is that the dollars awarded are limited. The priority application deadline is January 1 to March 2. Applications received after March 2 will be considered for limited funding only.

There are three ways to apply.

1. Apply Online at www.FAFSA.ed.gov (Recommended)
  • Apply for a PIN. If you are a dependent student, your parent must also request a PIN. Your PIN will serve as an electronic signature on the FAFSA
  • Complete your FAFSA application.
  • Sign the application with the PIN(s).
  • File Early as funds are limited! Priority application filing period is January 1 to March 2.

Income figures may be estimated; DO NOT wait until tax return is filed.

2. Apply by Completing a PDF (paper) FAFSA
  • PDF FAFSAs must be mailed for processing. They can be downloaded at:

| FAFSA (2009-2010) English | FAFSA (2009-2010) Español |

  • File Early as funds are limited! Priority application filing period is January 1 to March 2.
3. Apply by Calling
  • Request a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243) or 1-319-337-5665. If you are hearing impaired, please contact the TTY line at 1-800-730-8913.
