| |
The Federal Work-Study (FWS) program provides part-time employment to students attending institutions of higher education who need the earnings to help meet their educational costs. The program is also designed to help student gain valuable work experience and to serve the community in community service jobs. Students must complete a "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" (FAFSA) by the March 2 deadline, indicate on the FAFSA that they want work-study and have calculated financial need. FWS funds are very limited and not all students who qualify will be awarded. Students get paid once a month for the hours they work and are paid wages ranging from $8.00 to $16.17 an hour, depending on the type of job they obtain.
Effective January 1, 2008 the California Minimum wage will increase to $ 8.00 per hour.
