Grants are financial aid that do not need to be paid back
Federal Pell Grant is a federal grant for undergraduate students with financial need. The award ranges from $400 - $4310.
Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is a federal grant for undergraduate students. The award ranges from $150 to $450. You must be enrolled at least half-time to qualify. You must be eligible for a Pell Grant to qualify for a SEOG award.
Cal Grants are grants provided by the State of California for undergraduate students. The California Student Aid Commission determines awards. You must be enrolled half-time or more and be a California resident to qualify. Non-resident students are encouraged to inquire with their state of residence as to the availability of state programs.
Two programs are available to Cal Poly Pomona students:
- Cal Grant A - Eligibility is based on grade point average and financial need. The award is for fees.
- Cal Grant B - Eligibility is based on substantial financial need. The award is for fees and a living allowance (subsistence). Freshman recipients receive a subsistence and beginning with their sophomore year, awards are for both fees and subsistence.
Educational Opportunity Grant (EOP) is a state grant for undergraduate students admitted to the University through the Student Services and Equity Program and who meet certain need criteria. Funds are limited and may not be sufficient to award all eligible students. You must be enrolled full time to qualify. The award ranges from $300 to $1000.
State University Grant (SUG) is a grant provided by the State of California for undergraduate and graduate students. Recipients must be California residents. You must be enrolled at least half-time to qualify.
Cal Poly Pomona Grant (CPPG) is a University grant for undergraduate students to assist with payment of fees. You must be enrolled at least half-time to qualify. Awards average $150 to $450 per quarter.
Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) is federal grant for undergraduate students with financial need. In order to be eligible for this grant, a student must be Pell Grant eligible and meet all of the following requirements: Enrolled full-time in a degree program, an United States citizen, enrolled in the first or second academic year of the program of study at a two or four year degree granting institution, have completed a rigorous secondary school (high school) program of study (after January 1, 2006 for first year students and after January 1, 2005 for second year students), for first year students, have not been previously enrolled in an undergraduate program, and for a second year student, have at least a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale for first academic year. The award is $750 for 1st year recipients and $1300 for 2nd year recipients.
National Science and Math Access to Retain Talent Grant (SMART) is a federal grant for undergraduate students with financial need. In order to be eligible for this grant, a student must be Pell Grant eligible and meet all of the following requirements: Enrolled full-time in a degree program, a United States citizen, enrolled in a four year degree granting institution, enrolled in a least one core class of the SMART major in order to receive payment each quarter, majors include physical, life or computer science, engineering, mathematics, technology or a critical foreign language, and have at least a cumulative 3.0 quarterly GPA an a 4.0 scale. The maximum award is $4000.
