Personal circumstances and pressures that often occur with the college experience can lead to stress, depression, anxiety, relationship problems, mental health challenges, and other overwhelming obstacles.  Students seeking CAPS services do so to address stressful events and personal challenges that can disrupt their academic progress.  Professional counselors at CAPS can offer an unbiased perspective, support, guidance, and access to resources as you develop new skills, explore options, and solve problems.  CAPS offers FREE and confidential counseling services in the following formats:  individual counseling, couple counseling, family counseling, group counseling, and crisis intervention.  Currently enrolled students are eligible for services.  CAPS also provides educational programs such as presentations, training, workshops, and consultation to student clubs, organizations, and classes on topics such as Stress and Time Management, Effective Study Skills, Dealing with Test Anxiety, and Self-Esteem, etc.

Student Health Services

(909) 869-4000
http://www.dsa.csupomona.edu/shs

This fully staffed ambulatory care facility is located in Building 46 and provides basic medical services to students with illnesses, injuries or other health-related issues. All students pay a mandatory quarterly health fee at the time of registration, covering them for unlimited visits with licensed medical doctors, nurse practitioners, and health educators on an outpatient basis, much like a family practice clinic. Call the main number (909-869-4000) for an appointment. Usually, you will be offered an appointment the same day you call until all appointments have been filled. Urgent Care is available for sudden illnesses and injuries. X-rays, basic lab tests, HIV testing, and family planning and birth control consultations are also available at no additional cost.

Low-cost services include CPR and First Aid classes, travel and influenza immunizations, and cholesterol testing. The on-site pharmacy provides low-cost prescription medications and non-prescription pharmacy items, all sold at cost.

Student Health Services’ educational satellite facility, The Wellness Center (909) 869-5272, located in the middle of campus in the Bronco Student Center, Building 35-1341, provides free health education literature, body fat measurements, blood pressure screenings, height and weight, fitness testing, and a variety of health enhancing assessments. Stop in any time to speak to a Health Educator to learn how to improve your well-being. Staying healthy is your key to academic success!

Outside and after-hours medical care is at your expense. You are strongly encouraged to carry outside insurance coverage for those times when Student Health Services is closed or when you need to be referred to an outside provider. As a minimum, low-cost medical insurance is available through Associated Students, Inc.

Immunization Requirements

(909) 869-2759

http://www.dsa.csupomona.edu/shs/immuniz_requ.asp

All newly enrolled students who graduated from an accredited California high school on or after January 1, 2005, will have met the immunization requirements and do not need to show further proof. All other entering students must provide proof of immunization for Measles and Rubella (German or 3-day measles). In addition, those students 18 or younger on their first day of class must show proof of immunization for Hepatitis B. Those unable to furnish this documentation must be immunized. Free immunization clinics are available at Student Health Services by appointment; call the Immunization Information Hotline for more details or visit our website.

Although not a requirement, it is strongly recommended that all entering freshmen living on campus consider the vaccination for Meningococcal Disease, a potentially life-threatening bacterial infection known to occur more frequently among students living in crowded communities like college residence halls. All housing students will receive information on Meningococcal Disease in their license agreement materials. Ask your family doctor about this vaccine. The vaccine is available at Student Health Services by appointment for $90.
