SERVICES PROVIDED
Student Advocacy The role of the CalWORKs Advisor and peer mentors is to help students meet all requirements for SIP participation. They assist students in completing Greater Avenue for Independence (GAIN), Transitional Assistant Department (TAD), and Social Services Agency (SSA) related forms. They provide one-on-one counseling services, help student meet 32/35 hours for SIP requirements, and inform students of their rights. CalWORKs students must do quarterly reporting in conjunction with their case worker.
Child Care We typically will refer students to the Cal Poly Pomona Children's Center. It is available for children ages 2-6 years. The Cal Poly Children's Center provides Summer Enrichment Programs for children 6-12 years of age and part day and full day program for children 3-4 years of age.
Work Study Work Study offers part-time employment to students who are eligible for financial aid. We work with the Financial Aid Office to assist CalWORKs students in obtaining work study each year.
Liaison with surrounding County Offices We work with case workers to provide authorization of your required documents.
Resources for Legal Aid Our office works with the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles as well as the Western Center on Law and Poverty. When student's rights are violated we will refer participants to legal aid office.
Verification of Study Time CalWORKs students are required to have supervised study time. Studying done in the center will be authorized for study time requirement.
