When a student finds it necessary to stop attending Cal Poly Pomona for a reason acceptable to the University, the student may be granted a leave of absence. A student on leave of absence may, upon return from the leave, continue in the same program that the student had prior to leaving. Additionally, the student retains the right to elect requirements in effect at the time of entrance or re-entrance into the curriculum. Only students in good standing are eligible for a leave of absence.

Students who stop attending or participating in all classes in which they were officially enrolled and fail to file a "Petition to Withdraw Completely From The Current Quarter" will receive the administrative grade of "WU" in all registered classes. "WU" negatively impacts the grade point average, factoring in as a failing grade; it is advisable that students petition to have these grades retroactively changed to a "W", if they can demonstrate and document serious and compelling reasons for the withdrawal from Cal Poly Pomona during the quarter in question. The "Request for Retroactive Withdrawal" petition is available from the Office of Academic Programs, Building 98T.
