A critical component to securing your computer is to make sure that your computer is fully patched and that software and hardware vulnerabilities have been fixed. SAITS has implemented a server (WSUS) that will automatically monitor and apply new patches to all computers under the Division of Student Affairs. The automatic updates are performed at night in order to avoid interruption during day operations. In order for the updates to be successful, we ask that each user perform the following steps each evening before leaving home.
1) Save and close all documents and programs.
2) Log Off from computer.
3) Leave the computer turned ON.
Each morning, SAITS reviews several reports to make sure that the updates were successful. In the event that an update was not successful, then a SAITS technician will schedule to meet with you and troubleshoot the problem. SAITS is committed to keeping your computer up to date and secure, as well as providing you with quality service. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact SAITS Help Desk ext. 7186.
