Physicians

Gerald Hays, M.D.
Dr. Gerald Hays, M.D.

Dr. Hays started working at Cal Poly Pomona Student Health Services in 1985, retiring from a successful private practice in pediatric medicine in Fullerton. His medical degree is from UCSF in San Francisco, CA (1959) and he is Board Certified in Pediatrics (1964). Dr. Hays has a special interest in sports medicine. Although retired from Student Health Services since 2003, Dr. Hays serves as our part-time physician two days a week on Monday and Wednesday.

Carol Smith, M.D.
Dr. Carol Smith, M.D.

Dr. Smith started at Cal Poly Pomona in 1992. She received her medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, MI (1972), and is Board Certified in both Family Practice (1979) and Pediatrics (1988). Prior to Cal Poly, Dr. Smith practiced family medicine for 20 years and Pediatrics for 4 years. She has an interest in women's health issues and sports medicine.

Steven DeStefano, M.D.
Steven DeStefano Dr. DeStefano started at Cal Poly Pomona in 1997. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY in 1981. He completed his internship and residency at UCLA from 1981-1984 and is board certified in Family Practice since 1984. Prior to Cal Poly Pomona, Dr. DeStefano was in private practice in Alta Loma for 9 years.
Leslie Tyska, M.D.
Leslie Tyska Dr. Tyska joined Cal Poly Pomona in 1999. She received her medical degree from University of California, Davis in 1992. She completed her internship and residency at UCLA from 1992-1995 and is board certified in Family Practice (1995, 2001). In addition, she is trained to perform colposcopy procedures. Prior to coming to Cal Poly Pomona, Dr. Tyska worked at the Straub Hospital and clinic in Honolulu, and then went on to a Kaiser clinic in Claremont.
Charles Maletz, M.D.
Charles Maletz Dr. Maletz was part of a group practice in Rancho Cucamonga prior to joining Student Health Services in 2005. He completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA (1978), recieved his medical degree at Harvard (1982), and his residency training at UCSD (1985).  He has been board-certified in family medicine since 1985 and became board-certified in adolescent medicine in 2005. Dr. Maletz has an interest in diabetes, asthma, and sports medicine.
Katty Chou, M.D.
Dr. Katty Chou, M.D.

Dr. Chou began her career at Cal Poly Pomona in the Spring of 2005. She received her undergraduate degree at UCLA (1994), and medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY (1998).  She completed her internship and residency at Swedish Medical Center, Seattle, WA, from 1998-2001, and is board certified in Family Practice. Prior to working in college health and Cal Poly Pomona's Student Health Services, Dr. Chou cared for patients in the inner city as a National Health Service Corp Physician.

Family Practice Nurse Practitioners

Judy Moore, R.N.P.
Judy Moore, R.N.P. Judy has worked with Cal Poly Pomona Student Health Services since 1988. She received her Pediatric Nurse Practitioner diploma in 1973 at Harbor UCLA Medical School and her Family Practice Nurse Practitioner diploma in 1977 at USC Medical School. She has a special interest in skin conditions and diseases of the skin.
Nancy McAllister, R.N.P.
Nancy McAllister, R.N.P.

Nancy has been part of the team at Student Health Services, Cal Poly Pomona, since 1989. She received her R.N. in 1979 and her Family Planning Nurse Practitioner diploma at UCLA Medical School in 1988. Her focus is in Adult Primary Care, and she is especially sensitive to issues surrounding a college-aged population.

Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner

Dorothy Davis, R.N.C.
Dorothy Davis, R.N.C. Dorothy joined Student Health Care Services at Cal Poly Pomona in February of 2000. She received her BSN (1974) and Masters degree in Education (1982) from Cal State University Los Angeles. Dorothy obtained her nurse practitioner certificate in 1975 at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. She specializes in Women's Health Care (OB/GYN) and is fluent in Spanish.
