Mandatory Health Fee

The Mandatory Student Health Fee provides students access to Student Health Services throughout the academic quarter. Eligibility for service for any quarter starts with the first day of the preceding break period and lasts until the first day of classes of the next quarter. As of Fall Quarter 1998, the quarterly fee is $45.00, and is automatically included in your fee bill. All currently enrolled CSU students can use the Student Health Services.

Here is a summary of what this fee provides:


ACCESSIBLE HEALTH CARE
  • 45% of our patient visits are on the same day as initial contact
  • There are minimal delays for appointments--most are scheduled within 1 to 3 days of your request
  • Student Health Services is open during convenient hours

 

AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE
  • No-cost, unlimited doctor, nurse practitioner, and health educator visits
  • No-cost x-rays
  • No-cost family planning or birth control options classes
  • No-cost or low cost laboratory tests
  • At-cost prescription and non-prescription drugs and medications
  • No-cost health assessments and screens at The  Wellness Center

PROTECTION OF COMMUNITY (PUBLIC) HEALTH
  • One-third of all students are uninsured--Student Health Services is the only health protection that they have
  • The Measles & Rubella and Hepatitis B Immunization Program protects ALL students
  • The influenza (flu) immunization program reduces lost class and study time
  • Tuberculin testing and treatment programs also protect you

 

EDUCATION OF THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY ABOUT HEALTH
  • Student wellness promotion programs -The Wellness Wise Card
  • Satellite health promotion and education facility in the heart of campus -The Wellness Center
  • Free Health Promotion education and information
  • Free assistance with health-related classroom projects
  • Research on and dissemination of information about health related behaviors including:

Use of alcohol and other drugs as well as
Use of diet and exercise to reduce stress and to maintain health

  • Promotion of awareness of available services

The Student Health Fee is mandatory for all students except for several categories of automatic exemptions. These are handled on an individual basis and require authorization from the Director of Student Health Services.
