The goal of relaxation is to release unnecessary muscle tension and quiet the mind. Relaxation can take many forms and include body focused (breathing, stretching, massage, progressive relaxation); mental techniques (meditation, guided imagery); and a combination that integrate physical and mental approaches. The mind and body work together in harmony to bring about relaxation. Physical relaxation creates peace of mind as a by-product. Mental un-cluttering slows down breathing and reduces tension.
