Graduation Writing Test

  1. What is it?
    • The GWT is a writing test, which all Cal Poly Pomona students must pass to graduate.
  2. When is it done?
    • When a student earns 90 - 120 quarter units (including transfer credit).  Students who do not register for the GWT by the completion of 120 units will have a hold placed on their record.

Graduation Check

  1. What is it?
    • The Registrar's Office performs a preliminary evaluation of a student's academic record to determine remaining requirements to earn a degree.
  2. When is it done?
    • When 40 units or less of coursework remain (including units currently in progress) to complete a major's degree requirements.
    • Grad checks will not be processed if the student has more than 40 units remaining.
  3. How do I submit a grad check?
  4. How long does it take?
    • The Registrar's Office will email the results to the student's Cal Poly Pomona email address within 90 days.

Applying for Graduation

  1. When it is done?
    • The quarter before or quarter of anticipated graduation.
  2. How do I apply?
    • Students can apply online through BroncoDirect.
    • $40 application fee.

Commencement

  1. Participation not required to graduate.
  2. Held every June.
  3. Students who graduate in earlier quarters of the academic year can participate.
