Graduation Steps for Juniors and Seniors

The following information is a simplified guide for students nearing graduation.  For detailed information, please visit the respective Cal Poly Pomona department weblinks.

Step 1: Graduation Writing Test (Juniors)

  1. What is it?
    • The GWT is a writing test, which all Cal Poly Pomona students must pass to graduate.
  2. When is it done?
    • When a student earns 90 - 120 quarter units (including transfer credit).  Students who do not register for the GWT by the completion of 120 units will have a hold placed on their record.
  3. How do I sign up?
  4. How can I prepare for the GWT?

Detailed information (including registration & test dates) at http://www.csupomona.edu/~academic/testcenter/gwt.shtml.

Step 2: Graduation Check (Seniors)

  1. What is it?
    • A Transfer & Graduation Advisor from the Registrar's Office reviews a student's academic progress toward graduation.  Within 90 days a report outlining remaining courses for graduation is emailed to the student's Cal Poly Pomona email account.
  2. Is it required?
    • Yes.  A student cannot apply for graduation without a completed graduation check.
  3. When is it done?
    • Less than 10 classes or 40 units remain to complete degree requirements.
  4. Who must do it?
    • Graduation Checks for all Undergraduate students will be done automatically. Students no longer need to complete a Request for Graduation Check Form.

 Detailed information at http://dsa.csupomona.edu/registrar/graduation.asp.

Step 3: Applying for Graduation (Seniors)

  1. What is it?
    • Students must apply to graduate when all degree requirements are complete.
  2. When do I apply for graduation?
    • The application is submitted the same quarter the student wishes to graduation.  A detailed schedule with deadlines is available here.
  3. How do I apply for graduation?
    • Follow these steps to apply via BroncoDirect.  A $55 graduation fee will be applied to your account.
