Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are only racial/ethnic minority students admitted to EOP?
A: No. Any student, who meets EOP income criteria and additional admissions criteria, may be admitted to EOP.
Q: Do EOP applicants automatically qualify for an application fee waiver?
A: No. Applicants must demonstrate financial need to be considered for a fee waiver. Determination of eligibility will be made when applying to the university online at www.csumentor.edu.
Q: Are EOP students automatically eligible for an EOP grant or other financial aid?
A: No. EOP students are eligible to receive an EOP grant if their Expected Family contribution (EFC) does not exceed 1,500. Students must complete and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other documents as required by the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.
Q: Is applying to EOP the same as filing the FAFSA?
A: No. EOP applicants must submit a FAFSA and other required documents by the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships in order to be considered for financial aid (grants, work study & loans).
Q: Do students in community college EOP&S programs automatically qualify for Cal Poly Pomona’s EOP?
A: No. Transferring community college students must submit an EOP application during the CSU admissions application process and follow the same procedures as other applicants. However, special consideration will be given to EOP&S students in an effort to enhance the transfer and graduation rates of these students. EOP&S and EOP are two different programs.
Q: Can Cal Poly Pomona students apply to EOP once they have enrolled?
A: No. EOP determines eligibility for the program during the student’s admissions process prior to enrollment.
Q: Why would a student who is currently earning good grades benefit from EOP?
A: All students need supportive communities to be successful. Very few people succeed alone. EOP has a group of trained professionals that can help foresee and address challenges that students may encounter at the college level.
Q: Do EOP students receive book vouchers and/or priority registration?
A: No. Although EOP does not provide students with book vouchers, it offers an EOP Supplemental Grant to eligible EOP students. The grant is added to a student’s financial aid package. Priority registration is not given to EOP students at Cal Poly Pomona.
Q: Do ALL transferring students from other CSU’s qualify for EOP?
A: No. EOP students transferring from other CSU campuses are eligible for the program upon verification of EOP status at previous CSU institution. Please contact our office at (909) 869-4557 for EOP verification process.
