Kellogg Arabian Horse Center

Mother horse and baby in pastureThe Arabian Horse Center is home to the oldest campus tradition, the Sunday Arabian Horse Show.  In its 80th year, the monthly horse shows have continued after the ranch became a university campus.  Established by W.K. Kellogg in 1926, the horse shows feature Arabian purebreds trained and handled exclusively by Cal Poly Pomona students and staff.  The Arabian horse breeding program is the oldest in the United States and the fifth largest in the country.  More than 70% of the domestic Arabian bloodstock in this country can trace its lineage to the original Kellogg breeding program.

The gift is the third largest ever given to the university. The grant allocated $2 million for the construction of the new W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Library and $3 million will be endowed for the care of the center. The $2 million gift, which will go towards the construction of a 5,600 square foot Arabian Horse Library, will provide the impetus for a $6 million capital campaign designed to build the library.

Public performances are given on the first Sunday of the month, October through May, at 2:00 p.m. The program, featuring the Arabian as an English, western, stock, and jumping horse, is planned and produced by students working with horses they have trained.

The Kellogg Ranch has long been one of the world's outstanding Arabian horse breeding farms, and the university continues the breeding program today, perpetuating the Arabian and making valuable blood lines available to the public.  The Kellogg Arabians are a noted attraction for thousands of Southern Californians and tourists who view the show each year.
