How Will the Restraining Order Help Me?

It can order the restrained person to:

  • Not contact or go near you, your children, other relatives, or others who live with you
  • Not have a gun
  • Move out of your house
  • Follow child custody and visitation orders
  • Pay child support
  • Pay spousal or partner support

How Do I Get a Restraining Order?

Violence Prevention & Women's Resource Center advocates can assist students, staff and faculty in requesting temporary and permanent restraining orders. An advocate can assist you with filling out the paperwork, filing the request at the court, and accompany you to court. All restraining order services are complimentary to the Cal Poly Pomona community.

What Proof of Abuse Do I Need?

Prior to meeting with an advocate, it is important that you collect the following items: 

  • Witness testimony
  • Photos of abuse
  • Medical or police reports
  • Damaged property
  • A threatening letter, unwanted e-mails, or telephone messages
